“Charlotte is a thoughtful and engaging character.” - School Library Journal
After a dangerous brush with the Chicago Fire of 1871, young Charlotte journeys with her family to a far-off reaches of Lake Superior. While Papa works
for an island mining operation, Charlotte meets red-haired Claire and her storytelling grandmother who introduce her to the island’s beauty and intriguing heritage.
In the tradition of the “Little House” books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, this heartwarming tale of growing up in a pioneer family on Isle Royale, a wilderness
island near the Canadian border, is sure to delight readers of all ages.

The late Rebecca S. Curtis was an elementary school educator who wrote this story after spending a summer on Isle Royale. She wished to bring the
little-known history of this enchanting place alive for young readers. A Michigan native, she based the story on diaries of early settlers.
